Superflexible File Synchronizer is a program used to transfer files from one folder to another, or to modify contents of the two folders and make sure that they are the same. We use Superflex to transfer notes and recorded videos from our local recording station to the network drives, where they can be edited and posted in the control room. This document will guide you through creating synchronization profiles, using sync. profiles, and basic troubleshooting.
Getting started (Basic need to know):
Superflex can be used on both PCs and Macs.
On PCs, you can open Superflex by finding it in the Start menu, or click on its icon in the lower right hand corner
On Macs, you can find it in the Applications folder
Superflex does all its transferring magic in the background
Unless you have the Superflex window up and running, you will never be notified that a file has been transferred. It will just happen
NOTE: on Macs, Superflex can only run in the background if it is open
Find and open Superflex on a Mac, then hit Cmd-H
Superflex will still run, but it will not be visible. To bring it up again, click on its icon in the lower tray
There are two modes to display Superflex in: wizard and advanced
For most of our operations, you want to display in advanced mode
To switch between them, look at the top of the window on both PCs and Macs.
Superflex runs its profiles according to a Scheduler
The Scheduler can be accessed from the advanced mode by clicking the tab at the top that says 'Scheduler'
The important thing is that it is running. Click 'Start scheduler' to start it if it is not running.
Superflex organizes transferring jobs into profiles.
The large white area in the advanced mode will show you all the profiles that are active
A profile is where you define what folder you want to copy files to.
For instance, one profile could take files in \Users\foo\desktop and transfer it to \Users\foo\myfolder
Any profile can be run at any time
When the 'profile overview' tab is selected in advanced mode, select a profile by checking the box next to it, on the left side
With the profile you want to run selected, click the play button near the top of the window.
More on this here
Creating a profile:
To create a profile, click the 'plus sign' button with the profile overview tab selected in advanced mode
Give the new profile a name at the very top of the new window that opens
Just underneath the name, locate the two forms labeled 'left-hand side' and 'right-hand side'
These are where you enter the file paths for the two folders you want Superflex to monitor.
For instance, if you want to copy files from folder1 into folder2, you'd put the folder1's path into the left-hand side and the folder2's path into the right-hand side.
Click browse and put the two folders you want to synchronize between in these two places.
If a message comes up about modifying the path name, click ok (PCs only)
Note that the names of the folders MUST be the same
If you want to copy items from a folder named 'Foo' then the folder you're copying into must also be named 'Foo'
Underneath the path names, find 'Copying directions'
Here you can choose if you want to copy files from the left path into the right path or vice versa
Next to copying directions, find 'Include subfolders'
